My novel, Glass Sword (Book 2) by Victoria Aveyard, is continuing the adventure of Mare Barrow. After the attack on Naercey, the group has moved on to another safe haven by taking "an underwater boat" to an island called Tuck. When they do get to the island, Mare finds her other brother, Bree, who betrays her by letting the Colonel of the Scarket Guard to arrest Cal; the armed soldiers weren't subtle with taking Cal. Mare has been betrayed by so many people, but she felt it like a knife when her best friend, Kilorn, locked Mare into the same jail cell as Cal. But it turned out that that was the part of the plan, that Kilorn of loyal to the Colonel, but he, Farley, and Shade helped them all escape by using Shade's ability to "jump" from place to place. They steal a Blackrun (a jet) and go on a search for the "newbloods" the group wants to recruit.
They found the first person, "Nix Marsten, Living, Male, Born 12/20/271 (almost 49 years old) in Coraunt, Marsh Coast, Regent State, Norta. Current residence, same as birth." Nix joined the group, but he strongly dislikes Cal, the exiled prince of Norta. On the jet, the find the people on the list, "Ada Wallace. Born 6/1/290 in Harbor Bay. Wolliver Galt. Born 1/20/302. While they are at Harbor Bay, they find a group called the Mariners. Their plan was to betray the main characters by leading them to a trap with Security to take them to the Silver king. "Anyone can betray anyone."

Mood
The moods that are in my book is suspense, sorrow, and anger. This story is very mysterious with lots of plot twists and the main characters are trying to survive, but they can't trusts anybody. It is suspenseful because Mare's brother Shade is alive, her other brother Bree betrayed her trust by trying to turn her and Cal over to the ruthless king. There is sorrow because of that betrayal and the knowing of the many Red and Silver soldiers laying dead on the previous battlefield, the only ones that are probably going to have a proper furnaral are the Silvers. Anger is a very strong emotion for this series because it is exactly what the main character, Mare, is feeling. She thinks she killed herself, the one who used to live in the Red villages with her family before everything turned upside down. She killed Mareena, the Silver princess she was disguising to be during the time she lived in the royal castle. Now, she is just the "lightning girl." "Anyone can betray anyone." "Tell me I haven't walked into another trap." "No, not wounded, dead." "What a world that will be, with a monster for its king, and his mother holding his leash." "We seem weak because we want to."

Summarize
So far, in my book, the main character and her companions escaped the surprise attack in Naercey, lead by the ruthless new king, Maven. Shade, Kilorn, and Mare were separated from their original group, and they had to run to find cover from the attacking soldiers that were invading their secret base and safe haven. Shade had been shot with clean bullets, Cal was set free from his chains to fight firer with fire, and Mare helped by using her lightning to attack the new found enemies. Farley directed them out of the battle, and they all jumped off a cliff and landed on an underwater boat. After waking up in another strange place, Mare tries to find her brother to see how's he doing from the bullet wounds. Kilorn directs her to her brother and they find out that they are heading North, to another base. Farley, the captain of the Scarlet Guard, agrees on finding the newbloods, people just like Mare and Shade, and use them to create a powerful Ramey to take down Maven's throne.

Summarizing
The story that I am now reading is called Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard. I'm only three pages into the second chapter--in the exposition of the book. So far I have learned that Cal, Mare and the Scarlet Guard, are what the king calls "criminals," and they are trying to run away from the kingdom to a safe place to stay temporarily. The characters are trying to stay alive while there are missils and guns firing at them from right to left. The new king is ruthless and blood thirsting for Red blood and Silver power, and Mare and her friends will try to do everything to stop him.

Exposition
In the first chapter of Glass Sword, the story resumes where it left off in the last book. Mare and Cal (the king's son) were taken by the Scarlet Guard for protection and find some shocking news along the way. There was a big surprise in the first few pages; it turns out that Mare's older brother who went off to fight in a war is actually alive and not dead. In the last book, Mare's family got a letter saying that their son was executed for trying to run away from war. When Mare and Cal both find out that Shade is very well alive, the younger sibling is excited and happy to see her older brother again. Shade is also like Mare, Red and Silver, and stronger than both with extraordinary powers. When the Gaurd arrives at the Naercey (an old safe haven for the rebels), they find that the place is destroyed with no one else left. Flying metal jets were soaring above in the sky and firing missals at the already destroyed buildings. Mare and the rest of the Guard try to find cover and trying to stay alive.

January Novel
My choice of book is Glass Sword, a novel by Victoria Aveyard. This is the second book in the Red Queen series, so I know the author's style of writing, and I think it is amazing. The cover has a baby blue background with a silver crown in the front with red blood dripping from it. For some people, they probably wouldn't read this series because of the blood and automatically think it's gruesome. If you read the description of the book series and actually read the books, I'm pretty sure, you'll fall in love with the characters and storyline. I know I did. The first book was about how the main charcter Mare Barrow is a Red citizen. She then gets a job as a servant at the Silver palace. The adventure starts when she and most of the royal Silvers find out that she has Red blood, but has Silver powers. She has the ability to create and control lightning, which makes her a threat to society. She joins a rebel group that wants to out-throw the Silvers' laws called the Scarlet Guard, along with the younger prince, Maven. It turns out that the second wife of the king, Elara, and her son Maven were both behind a scheme of destruction to get rid of selective people who had a high profile that were a threat to Elara and Maven. All Silvers have powers, and throughout the story, I was taken on a rollercoaster of sadness, smiles, betrayal, and at the very end, a cliffhanger. I can't wait to continue the journey alongside the rest of the characters. The most repeated quote in the first book was, "Anyone can betray anyone." Be careful who you trust, they might not always be who they seem to be.
