Exposition

In the first chapter of Glass Sword, the story resumes where it left off in the last book. Mare and Cal (the king's son) were taken by the Scarlet Guard for protection and find some shocking news along the way. There was a big surprise in the first few pages; it turns out that Mare's older brother who went off to fight in a war is actually alive and not dead. In the last book, Mare's family got a letter saying that their son was executed for trying to run away from war. When Mare and Cal both find out that Shade is very well alive, the younger sibling is excited and happy to see her older brother again. Shade is also like Mare, Red and Silver, and stronger than both with extraordinary powers. When the Gaurd arrives at the Naercey (an old safe haven for the rebels), they find that the place is destroyed with no one else left. Flying metal jets were soaring above in the sky and firing missals at the already destroyed buildings. Mare and the rest of the Guard try to find cover and trying to stay alive.

January Novel

My choice of book is Glass Sword, a novel by Victoria Aveyard. This is the second book in the Red Queen series, so I know the author's style of writing, and I think it is amazing. The cover has a baby blue background with a silver crown in the front with red blood dripping from it. For some people, they probably wouldn't read this series because of the blood and automatically think it's gruesome. If you read the description of the book series and actually read the books, I'm pretty sure, you'll fall in love with the characters and storyline. I know I did. The first book was about how the main charcter Mare Barrow is a Red citizen. She then gets a job as a servant at the Silver palace. The adventure starts when she and most of the royal Silvers find out that she has Red blood, but has Silver powers. She has the ability to create and control lightning, which makes her a threat to society. She joins a rebel group that wants to out-throw the Silvers' laws called the Scarlet Guard, along with the younger prince, Maven. It turns out that the second wife of the king, Elara, and her son Maven were both behind a scheme of destruction to get rid of selective people who had a high profile that were a threat to Elara and Maven. All Silvers have powers, and throughout the story, I was taken on a rollercoaster of sadness, smiles, betrayal, and at the very end, a cliffhanger. I can't wait to continue the journey alongside the rest of the characters. The most repeated quote in the first book was, "Anyone can betray anyone." Be careful who you trust, they might not always be who they seem to be.
